The programme is firmly based on knowledge of how young children learn. Activities and interactions are developmentally appropriate to the age of the children and respect the unique needs of individual children. Play and concrete, relevant experiences are emphasized in developing cognitive, social, emotional and physical skills. This lays the groundwork for the smooth acquisition of more sophisticated skills of reading, writing, mathematical and scientific reasoning as the social skills required to succeed in Kindergarten and later schooling. The day provides periods of quiet and active play, structured activities (such as arts & crafts, games, stories, music) and free play, indoor and outdoor physical activities, group activities, including outings and special events, as well as one-on-one interactions with adults.
Since children learn best through their own experiences, the environment is designed to be safe and supportive allowing children to explore. Care givers act as guides, providing a rich array of materials and activities, including daily routines, to promote the development of skills.
